ORLANDO, Florida – (PRESS RELEASE) -- The World Golf League, Inc. (OTC BB:WGFL.OB) has teamed with Mandalay Sports Action Entertainment (MSAE, part of the Mandalay Entertainment Group) to produce The Golf & Poker Invitational. The made-for-television event will include six PGA tour players and six professional poker players in a crossover competition with a winner take all prize.
Poker and golf are two of the hottest televised sports activities in the marketplace. Combining the two in a unique and custom competition featuring recognized players from both disciplines is a natural for WGL and Mandalay, who has a successful track record of creating and airing unique television concepts.
WGL Entertainment recently wrapped production on their first sports reality program, the "WGL Million Dollar Shootout." The golf competition features 22 competitors, PGA and LPGA touring pros, team captains and celebrities in a team-oriented competition, which awards a $1,000,000 prize to the winning group. Hosted by passionate golfer and veteran actor John O'Hurley, the seven episode series offers tremendous story lines associated with competitors, intriguing on-course action and a spectacular result. MSAE is actively involved with WGL in the marketing and promotion of the show.
"Poker and golf are a perfect match, and offer tremendous broadcasting opportunities," said MSAE President David Salzberg. "This is a reality concept that will definitely resonate with viewers, participants and corporate partners, and we anticipate our only real challenge to be limiting the field to six poker pros and six professional golfers!"
As with the "WGL Million Dollar Shootout," WGL will produce the Golf & Poker Invitational through it's wholly owned subsidiary, WGL Entertainment.
"The experience we had in developing and producing the 'WGL Million Dollar Shootout' has increased our appetite for involvement in sports oriented reality competition," said Mike Pagnano, CEO of The WGL, Inc. "Working with Mandalay and what we're certain will be a group of recognized and accomplished poker and golf professionals will bring this next concept to life, and we can't wait to see these pros take their 'chips' from one discipline to the next."
