Attorney: Texas tribe defying laws

EL PASO, Texas -- As reported by the El Paso Times: "The Tigua tribe has repeatedly defied Texas law and court order prohibiting gambling on the reservation and should give up many of its gaming devices and a large portion of its profits, state attorneys told a federal judge Wednesday.

"'They have been told, and they just won't listen,' said Nancy Juren, an assistant attorney general.

"U.S. District Court Judge Harry Hudspeth heard arguments from the Texas attorney general and from the Tiguas' attorney on a motion the state filed in March alleging the tribe was violating a 2001 court order that halted gambling at Speaking Rock..."
