INDIO, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians raised $33,000 for Well in the Desert and FIND Food Bank through the 3rd Annual Drive Against Hunger Golf Tournament. Funds will be used to supplement their food distribution programs.
Tribal Chairman Doug Welmas says, “There was no doubt we would participate for a 3rd year in supporting efforts that help fight hunger in the Coachella Valley. The tribe is proud to take part in such an impactful event and look forward to many more years bringing awareness to these organizations and their ability to provide necessary resources.”
Well in the Desert serves nearly 45,000 meals, many to seniors and children and FIND Food Bank distributes food through partnering agencies to 80,000 individuals monthly.
The communitywide fundraising event continues to be supported by a group of volunteers from Sun City, Shadow Hills with help from The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and Eagle Falls Golf Course, and to date have donated $73,000 to help fight hunger in the Coachella Valley. Plans are already underway for next year’s golf tournament fundraiser set for March 27, 2015, where volunteers hope to double what they raised this year.
