Celebrities to get red carpet treatment at poker event

9 November 2009

COMMERCE, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Celebrities and players who make it to Commerce Casino early for the Annie Duke Celebrity Poker Tournament for The Decision Education Foundation (DEF) Thursday, Nov. 19, will get the Red Carpet treatment at STAKES Supper Club, the casino's renowned steakhouse and fine dining establishment. Early arrivals who get past the phalanx of photographers, will be treated to wine and scrumptious hors d'oeuvres before poker superstars Annie Duke, Andy Block and Howard Lederer welcome the players.

Celebrities already slated to play include actors Kathy Najimy, Joshua Malina, Penn Jillette, Andrew Hill Newman, Brande Roderick, Joe Reitman and Michael Cory Davis, along with Anthrax musician Scott Ian, supercross icon Jimmy Button and world champion snowboarder Jeff Brushie, with more expected to commit as the event gets closer. Pros lining up to play include Dan Harrington, John Hennigan, Cyndy Violette, Joe Sebok, Dave Stann, Adam Levy, Greg Mueller and Jon Friedberg.

And when the players find themselves on the wrong end of a bad beat that cleans out their stack, they can head down to STAKES' Loser's Lounge for plenty of jazz and good food. In fact, each player will receive a voucher for $10 toward dinner at STAKES.

www.LASplash.com's Stephen Martin, recently lauded STAKES: "If you are looking for a great steak and menu that will keep you coming back, you don't have to wait for your next poker game--head over to Stakes and the odds are with you that your meal will be a winner."

Known for having some of the best casual fare in the region for card players and local residents, Commerce Casino ups the stakes with this oasis of quality cuisine for the culinary savvy. STAKES also presents an ever-changing variety of wine selections and offers "Suppertime Jazz" on selected evenings.

"It's terrific having our first red carpet event at STAKES and we look forward to it being the first of many,"says Suzanne Papaian, STAKES Executive Manager. "Annie is a great friend of Commerce Casino and it's our pleasure to play host to this worthy charity tournament."

The Annie Duke Celebrity Poker Tournament (CPT) for The Decision Education Foundation (DEF), sponsored by Sports Legends Challenge, WSOP Academy, and presented by Rockwell Time, will begin at 8 PM after the reception. The event is part of Commerce's Casino's month long series of tournaments for the first-ever L.A. Poker Open. The Annie Duke DEF CPT is open to the public. The cost to enter is $300. The red carpet affair provides fans a rare opportunity to celebrate, mingle, and play with poker and Hollywood celebrities in a relaxed environment. Each participant will receive a generous gift package. More than $40,000 in prizes and giveaways will be awarded throughout the poker tournament.

Entrance to the Red Carpet reception at STAKES is open to VIPs.
