Dover man hits mini bad beat for $10,000

14 January 2014

DOVER, Del. -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The Crown Royal Poker Room at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino had a hit on its “mini” $10,000 Bad Beat Jackpot Friday on a Texas Hold‘em table. The jackpot, the newest guarantee addition to no limit hold’em games in the Poker Room, was divided incrementally among the eight players at the table.

A Dover, Del., player, who did not wish to be identified, received fifty percent of the jackpot, $5,000, for his “losing” hand of Aces full of Kings. A player from Portsmouth, Va., received $2,500 for his “winning” hand, quad Jacks. The top-prize payout to the player of the second-highest, “losing” hand is what the Bad Beat Jackpot represents: a consolation prize for being beaten when holding an otherwise high hand. The remaining six players on the table each received a payout of $416, representing the final twenty-five percent of the jackpot. Dover Downs Hotel & Casino has paid out more than $901,000 in bad beat jackpots since opening in Summer 2010.
