Holland: 'State-owned Las Vegas' under fire

THE NETHERLANDS -- Dutch political parties are calling for the privatization of state-owned Holland Casino, according to a report in NRC Handelsblad.

The government has responded that there are no plans to privatize Holland Casino at the moment.

Holland Casino, which opened in 1975 and operates 14 franchises, is the only legal casino in the Netherlands bringing sizeable profit to government coffers, the report in NRC stated.

The European Commission says the arrangement violates European competition rules, the NRC report said.
