Nevada Internet gaming bill introduced

CARSON CITY, Nevada -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- A bill that would allow Nevada to get into the business of interactive gaming was introduced Wednesday in the Assembly, but it already has run into trouble with Gov. Brian Sandoval.

Assembly Bill 114 was referred to the Judiciary Committee.

Sandoval asked lawmakers in his State of the State address in January to pass an online gambling bill within 30 days.

The governor announced Friday that he is working with Assembly Majority Leader William Horne, D-Las Vegas, to get a bill through the Legislature.

But the license fee increase, which would rise to $1 million from $500,000, could jeopardize the legislation. The bill also would increase the renewal fee to $500,000 from $250,000.

Sandoval spokeswoman Mary-Sarah Kinner said: "Governor Sandoval does not support the increased fee and will work to resolve this issue before the legislation is passed into law."

Sandoval said it is "critical" that Nevada pass its own online gaming bill, especially with New Jersey considering reworking its proposed online gaming bill.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a measure last Thursday but said he would sign it into law if the state Legislature made several changes.
