ROTA, Northern Marianas Islands -- Plans for a casino resort on Rota are expected to be announced today, according to a Pacific Daily News report.
A casino license has been secured although precise plans and a timeline for construction have not yet been established, the report explained.
The plan for the casino resort hopes to increase tourism to Guam and salvage the island's flailing economy, the Pacific Daily News said.
The Rota casino-resort has been inspired by the business model of Macao and Hong Kong, the report noted.
