LAS VEGAS – (Press Release) -- Gary Loveman, president and chief executive officer of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET) was named the gaming and lodging industry's 'Best CEO'in the January 2004 edition of Institutional Investor magazine.
Loveman was identified by the magazine as the top CEO in the gaming and lodging sector. He joined 61 other CEOs on the annual 'Best CEOs in America' list, including L. Lee Scott, Jr. of Wal-Mart Stores; Sumner Redstone of Viacom; Michael Dell of Dell Computer; Craig Barrett of Intel; and Steven Ballmer of Microsoft.
The selections were based on the votes of investment portfolio managers and equity research analysts at more than 400 money management firms. Respondents were asked to identify the top three CEOs in the industry sectors for which they had responsibility.
'Strong performance continues to be what counts most for evaluating CEOs,' the magazine wrote. 'But investors also prize the ability of executives to manage mergers, communicate with shareholders, take companies in new directions and foster teamwork.'
Loveman assumed the CEO post at Harrah's in January 2003.
