NEW YORK – (Press Release) -- February 12, 2001 -- Horseplayers will once again be able to get a headstart on handicapping the 127th Kentucky Derby and participating in Churchill Downs' Kentucky Derby Future Wager when Daily Racing Form publishes its annual "Kentucky Derby Futures Edition," which is available beginning Wednesday, February 14.
The first of three four-day Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool opportunities commences on February 15-18, and continues on March 8-11 and April 5-8. Each pool in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager will include 24 betting interests (23 designated horses plus the "Field" for all other runners) and will be determined by a panel of racing officials and handicappers. Updated DRF editions for Kentucky Derby Future Pools 2 and 3 will be available, beginning on March 7 and April 4.
Daily Racing Form's special edition ($3.00) will be full of invaluable information for handicappers gearing up for the "Run For the Roses." It will feature lifetime past performances and "A Closer Look" analysis for all Triple Crown nominees, along with official program numbers, key statistics and betting information. DRF national handicapper and "Derby Watch" expert Mike Watchmaker also will provide his in-depth analysis of the leading Derby nominees.
To help fans in their analysis of the Kentucky Derby contenders and the Future Wager, Watchmaker and Churchill Downs' John Asher will co-host a Derby Future Wager seminar, which will be simulcast into numerous racetracks and handicapping sites nationwide on the morning of Feb. 18. The seminar will look at the leading 3-year-olds in the division and explore possible dark horses and late nominations to the Derby.
