They Want Your Money

13 September 2022

By Frank Scoblete

“I went to the butcher yesterday and you can’t believe this but he wanted my money! He charged me for the meat. Can you believe that? His wife was adamant about wanting my money.”

“That’s nothing. I went to the doctor and I got this huge bill. She charged me for helping my health. Can you believe that? My husband was outraged. He threw a fit.”

“Oh, please. I bought a 75-inch television and they charged my credit card. I can’t believe they wanted money for that set. Can you believe that? A whole family runs that business and everyone wanted money for those television sets. I can’t believe that.”

“My grandson’s birthday is coming up and my granddaughter is just after his birthday. They wanted money for their birthdays. Can you believe that? They are not even adults and they wanted money! Amazing.”

“I went to the casino the other day and guess what? They wanted my money! I couldn’t play the games for free. I had to give them money and they gave me chips. I wanted to play for free. None of the casino staff – not pit bosses, floor people, dealers, cocktail servers wanting tips no less. Can you believe that? My wife had to put paid credits in the machines to be able to play them. Amazing, really amazing.”

None of us, at least I hope none of us, thinks people in business or having birthdays do not want money (or gifts of some kind) because that is the engine of the world – you ultimately must pay for what you want and what you give and get.

Indeed, some holidays are characterized by the giving and receiving of gifts. In fact, even the celestial beings want gifts as religions of all types expound upon the need for them to get money from…yes, Y*0*U. Money greases the wheels of the world.

Yet, I have heard casino players whining about the amount they have to pay to play the various casino games that they enjoy playing. Everyone has to wake up (right now) and realize that every aspect of the casino is geared to getting your money. That makes it no different than a butcher or a television shop or a doctor or, perhaps, you in your business or profession.

The “buyer” wants what someone has to offer and he or she must therefore pay for it. This is not a weird or even an uncommon idea.

Certainly, everything in the casino world has a price, even the supposedly “free” comps. You get the comps based on your theoretical loss based on what games you play, how long you play them, your average wager and what the casino figures you’ll lose over time. There should be no resentment to this fact. If players did not pay the casinos, there would be no casinos.

The player does have certain rights, however. Yes, he or she does have the ability to exercise selective judgment. The casino where a player plays is up to the player to choose. No casino can force you to play their games for their prices. The price of wagering is strictly up to the player.

The bottom line is what the casino world costs you is strictly up to you.

All the best in and out of the casinos!
