We're Back from Vegas!

20 January 2022

By Royal Flushes

ABBY: Well, our week in Vegas is over. And what a week it was.

CINDY: Yes. It was, as always, up and down…

ABBY: Down and up.

CINDY: My experiment of playing fifty dollars a night in a slot machine before I retired started off horribly. The random-number-generator was actually the “hammer Cindy” generator. The first three nights I barely got a hit or two. It was a little depressing. Losing is one thing but getting your head handed to you is something else entirely. You’d think in fifty decisions you’d hit something here or there.

ABBY: But you didn’t chase your money or anything?

CINDY: Absolutely not. I did keep my discipline. I had good luck at craps thanks to you. I didn’t win a fortune but I came out ahead, enough to make up for the slot machine losses. You really had good craps sessions.

ABBY: Yes, my shooting was good and I kept hitting repeating numbers – the very numbers I was on. Hey, you made some decent money too. Winning at craps for a full trip is probably the greatest thrill.

CINDY: You became the friend of all the males that made money from your rolls.

ABBY: I guess winning money makes the lines between men and women at craps tend to disappear.

CINDY: And fast too! I did have some luck at blackjack over a two-day period. I was able to play at several games that were slow and I had a few really hot hands and a couple of sessions where the dealer just kept busting. One of the few times you’d hear a blackjack table cheer! In fact, some of the players just stayed on their hands even if that was the wrong move. It worked for them but I hope they don’t do that in the future. Luck was on their sides.

ABBY: I ran away from one of the mini-baccarat games. One man was just annoying. Crazy superstitious. You know, every time I went to the min-bac tables at our home casino, he seemed to be there. It’s funny, as in really sad, that some players are just annoying expressing their ideas. Look, you want to be superstitious? Okay, fine; go ahead. But don’t dump those nutty ideas on me. Can you imagine at mini-bac someone telling you what to bet on? One time he kept egging me on to bet the Tie bet. I just got up and left the table.

CINDY: And the Tie bet hit just then. Wonder of wonders.

ABBY: There’s no justice in the world. All that guy’s beliefs were locked and sealed when the Tie hit. He shouted over to me as I was almost running away from the table, “You see! You see! You should listen to me.”

CINDY: Roulette was fun but the tables were much more crowded than I remember them. There weren’t fewer tables either. Maybe more players are getting into the game.

ABBY: Roulette has lasted centuries. It seems to be the “in” casino game for all those centuries.

CINDY: Oh, and the number 17, as far as I can tell, was not played any more than any other number during my time at the roulette tables.

ABBY: I had no luck at blackjack. Just basically stayed even for the trip. I just couldn’t get a run going.

CINDY: Sum it all up.

ABBY: A small loss.

CINDY: A small – very small – win.

ABBY: Fun?
